MASI has a collection of more than 14,000 artworks spanning a vast period of time, from the late 15th century to the present day. It reflects the history of the Museum: when MASI was founded in 2015 it was entrusted with two existing collections – the State Collection of Canton Ticino and the Collection of the City of Lugano.

The works in the collection have a connection to Switzerland, and the exhibitions held in the Museum. It therefore represents not only Swiss art of the past and present, but also the many artists from all over the world who have a link with the Ticino area.

This important cultural legacy is constantly being added to, with new acquisitions and generous gifts from private donors.

The collection is presented on rotation, in ever-changing exhibits. The works are carefully conserved, and the museum has its own in-house restoration laboratory.
